The Canadian Association of Women in Construction recently held a panel discussion about gender equity in the construction industry.

Today it remains an uphill battle as women professionals in construction are leaving the industry 39 per cent faster than their male colleagues, and 33 per cent of them are expected to leave within five years according to Statistics Canada.

We spoke with CAWIC President, Tammy Evans; Gender Equity Expert, Sharon Barney; Grand Valley Construction Association President, Martha George; and the Executive Director of the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum, Sarah Watts-Rynard to get their insights on the issue.
