SNC-Lavalin wins contract for $60 million sulphuric acid production plant in Kazakhstan

SNC-Lavalin has been awarded a lump-sum engineering and procurement contract by Kazzinc JSC for a new sulphuric acid plant for Kazzinc’s new copper smelter in in eastern Kazakhstan. The contract is valued at over $60 million.

SNC-Lavalin has been awarded a lump-sum engineering and procurement contract by Kazzinc JSC for a new sulphuric acid plant for Kazzinc’s new copper smelter in in eastern Kazakhstan. The contract is valued at over $60 million.

The acid plant will capture sulphur dioxide (SO2) created during the copper smelting process for use in its own production processes, thereby reducing SO2 gas emissions in compliance with the local Clean Air Act.

The plant is scheduled to go into operation in late 2009.
