MISSISSAUGA, ONT.—EllisDon is one of Canada’s safest employers.
The company was presented with a Canada's Safest Employer Award at the Safest Employer Gala held at Arcadian Court in Toronto Oct. 24.
The awards are presented by Canadian Occupational Safety in partnership with Workplace Safety and Prevention Services.
EllisDon was the gold recipient in the building and construction category.
The company received the award for its active participation in several industry-based safety committees providing staff, subcontractors and owners with the resources to achieve maximum performance.
"Maintaining standards that exceed government and industry requirements, EllisDon has held an unsurpassed safety record earning a number of recognitions and awards," a release indicates.
Launched in 2011, Canada's Safest Employer Award recognizes companies across Canada for their accomplishments in promoting health and safety for their workers.
The award boasts 10 industry specific categories and companies are judged based on a wide range of health and safety elements, including employee training, OHS management systems, incident investigation, emergency preparedness and innovative health and safety initiatives, adds the release.
"It is an honour to have our health and safety execution and expertise recognized through this prestigious award. Safety is woven into every aspect of our business," said Kari Harris, VP, occupational health and safety, in a statement.
