Moore, of Mike Moore Construction Ltd. in Sault Ste. Marie, received the Chairman's Award for service with distinction from OGCA chairman Paul Raboud at the Chairman's Gala, held Oct. 21, noted a media release. The Chairman's Award is presented to an individual who has "made an outstanding contribution to the general contracting industry."

Moore served as a member of the OGCA board of directors for over a decade. The statement said he is a "strong advocate of construction safety" and his companies have won several safety awards including the CCA's National Safety Award in 2006 and 2010.

Among other distinctions, the statement indicated, Moore was the first person in Canada to receive a Professional Gold Seal (Estimator) designation. He is past-president and past member of the board of directors for the Sault Ste. Marie Construction Association, a founding member of the Sault Ste. Marie Construction Association Safety Committee, past member of the board of directors of the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation and past member of the CEO Health and Safety Leadership Charter.

Atkinson received the Jock Tindale Memorial Award, which goes to individuals "known for a high standard of ethics and integrity in dealings within the construction industry," the statement said.

Atkinson joined the CCA as a staff officer responsible for standard industry practices and documents in 1981. The next year, he was appointed secretary to the Canadian Construction Documents Committee, a position he held until 1993 when he was elected president.

The statement said Atkinson is "highly regarded for his knowledge of the Canadian construction industry with more than 30 years of experience with the association including every aspect of senior government relations, procurement and industry promotion regarding construction in Canada."
