Feds, province contribute to reno at U of Montreal

SAINT-HYACINTHE, QUE. — The governments of Canada and Quebec have announced spending of $12.69 million on a renovation and modernization at the Universite de Montreal’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Saint-Hyacinthe.

Federal funding is allocated through the Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund, created to modernize research facilities on Canadian campuses focusing on environmental sustainability, noted a media statement released Sept. 25. The Government of Quebec's contribution is part of the Quebec Infrastructure Plan.

The university will use the funds to repurpose vacant office spaces and decommissioned labs to consolidate research spaces under the umbrella of the Centre integre des maladies infectieuses animals.

The federal government is providing $4.78 million to the project, Quebec is allocating $6.33 million and the university and other partners are providing $1.58 million.
