GO Transit has completed the replacement of over 100 switches at the Union Station Rail corridor to help trains, travelling in and out of the station, move more efficiently.

GO Transit has completed the replacement of over 100 switches at the Union Station Rail corridor to help trains, travelling in and out of the station, move more efficiently.

The six-year, $87-million investment will allow trains to shift from track to track at faster speeds.

“The completion of the switch replacement program is good for the GO customer, as it improves the reliability of train movements at Union Station,” said Gary McNeil, GO Transit President. “These improvements to the rail infrastructure, in addition to the revitalization at Union Station, are critical in order to prepare us for increases in GO ridership over the coming years.”

With the growing number of commuters travelling in and out of downtown, tracks were reworked to ease the amount of track switching which helps increase the capacity and speed through the corridor.
