The Saskatchewan government says it has a solution to prevent flooding on Highway 2 north of Prince Albert.

PRINCE ALBERT, SASK.

The Saskatchewan government says it has a solution to prevent flooding on Highway 2 north of Prince Albert.

Ken Cheveldayoff, minister responsible for the Water Security Agency, says a channel will be created to help drain flood waters off the highway into the Little Red River. The RM will be creating a channel that will help drain the flood waters off the highway and into the Little Red River.

Cheveldayoff says the river will be able to accommodate the extra water. A high amount of rainfall this month caused the Sand Lake to spill its banks and flood the highway to the depth of about half a metre. Three homes and yard sites were threatened and the Ministry of Government Relations and the Water Security Agency are continuing to work with landowners and the R-M of Buckland under the Emergency Flood Damage Reduction Program. Motorists have to still detour 15 minutes because of the water still on the road.
