LAVAL, QUE. — The transportation authority for Laval, Que., the Societe de transport de Laval (STL), has announced the commissioning of new dedicated bus infrastructure including new stops and a new one-kilometre reserved central lane corridor.
The City of Laval has announced completion of a new one-kilometre reserved central lane corridor along with six new bus stations as part of a program to improve transit efficiency.

The new stops are set up at the centre of Le Corbusier Boulevard between Albert-Duquesne and du Souvenir Boulevard. STL buses serving 11 routes in total will use the new reserved corridor exclusively, noted a media statement released last month.

A specific stop will accommodate passengers at each intersection depending on the direction of their destination, northbound or southbound. A total of six new stations of 30 metres each have been installed.

Over 54,000 STL customers go through the commercial artery every week, the statement indicates.

The project is part of a series of Bus Preferential Measures (BPM) set up by the STL and financed 100 per cent by the Quebec ministry of transport. The province allocated $23.5 million to the whole Laval BPM project.

Complementing the project, the City of Laval added additional bike path stretches, sidewalks, upgraded street furniture components and replaced almost 75 per cent of controllers on traffic lights.

All five BPM components — reserved lanes, traffic signal priority lights, candlestick priority lights, bypass lanes and repositioning of stops and shelters past the intersections — have now been or, will shortly be, integrated into the STL's activity, the release states.
