TORONTO — Due to the City of Toronto’s ongoing construction work on Dundas Street East, eastbound traffic will not be able to travel between Bay and Church streets from now to Sept. 16.

The city is replacing the TTC streetcar tracks and will restore the road areas affected by earlier watermain construction along that part of Dundas Street, states a news release. One lane of Dundas Street will be kept open for westbound traffic.

Victoria Street will be closed in both directions between Dundas Street and south of Dundas Square during the same July to September period.

The project is ahead of schedule and is now expected to be completed on Sept. 30 instead of the earlier anticipated date of Oct. 31, adds the release.

The work is being done to reduce the risk of future watermain breaks and to improve the quality of the streetcar tracks.

Extended hours, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., are in effect for this project.

In addition, some portions of the work will take place on a 24/7 basis to help minimize the length of the disruption. Noisy work such as concrete breaking and removal will stop at 11 p.m.

Signs on Dundas Street will inform drivers of the closures to help manage traffic in the area, the city reports. Changes to traffic signal timing will be made on parallel routes. Gerrard and Queen streets are alternative routes for drivers.
