TORONTO — The Daniels Corporation recently donated $50,000 to George Brown College’s Centre for Construction and Engineering Technologies (CCET) at the Daniels Waterfront — City of the Arts community.
The donation established an endowment funding in perpetuity the Daniels Leadership in Education Scholarship, beginning in the 2017/2018 academic year, states a release issued by George Brown College.
The scholarship is open to sole-support students in the Angelo DelZotto School of Construction Management.
"This gift is in keeping with The Daniels Corporation's philosophy of taking social and economic considerations into account in everything we do," said Don Pugh, vice-president of The Daniels Corporation, in a statement.
"We appreciate how important trades, craftspeople and construction managers are to delivering solidly built homes that stand the test of time. For us, this donation is an investment in the future of the construction industry. Our support will simultaneously assist construction students in financial need, and help toensure that The Daniels Corporation will continue to have access to competent, well-trained employees for years to come."
The ceremony was followed by a brief tour of the Daniels Waterfront — City of the Arts and soon-to-be home to George Brown College's Centre of Innovation.
Three members of the Daniels' team who work on the Daniels Waterfront community in various capacities, from construction estimating to onsite supervision, are alumni of the George Brown College Construction Management program, and were also on hand, bringing a "full circle" aspect to the ceremony, adds the release.
"Through this kind gift, The Daniels Corporation continues to show its commitment to the future of the construction sector by helping deserving students pursue their goals of working in the industry," said Cindy Gouveia, president of the George Brown College Foundation.
"It is therefore befitting that George Brown College graduates are employed by Daniels on this site, developing the future home for the Centre for Innovation."
"George Brown College is always pleased to collaborate with forward-thinking companies in the construction sector willing to make tangible expressions of their commitment to the industry by investing in George Brown College students," said Adel Esayed, dean of the CCET.
