Markham to be home to new York U campus

It will be the first university campus in York Region, notes a June 9 media statement.

The new university campus will serve an estimated 4,000 students in York Region, with the potential for more students over time.

The campus will offer a range of business, arts and social science-related programs in both undergraduate and graduate streams and will also have a partnership with Seneca College to offer students several joint academic programs.

Following an open call for proposals, York University's proposal to build a Markham-Centre Campus was selected in May 2015 by the province.

The new $127-million campus will be located north of Highway 407 between Kennedy Road and Warden Avenue in York Region.

Markham is the fourth-most populous community within the Greater Toronto Area, York region's most populous municipality and Canada's 16th largest city.
