HAMILTON, ONT.—The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) has released an app that provides instant access to workplace health and safety advice and information on mobile devices.
The OSH Answers app serves up the centre's collection of online fact sheets that is available on the CCOHS website, and which contains thousands of questions and answers on almost 600 topics related to the health and well-being of workers — from workplace stress and chemical safety, to ergonomics and seasonal safety tips, indicates a release.
OSH Answers fact sheets are presented in a question-and-answer format. They are bilingual and are written for workers, managers, supervisors and joint health and safety committee members who are the end users of the information in the workplace.
With the help of the mobile app, users can access OSH Answers offline, in remote areas and job sites, or where wireless connectivity is absent or unreliable. The app is essentially a virtual safety pocket guide, adds the release.
"An important part of safe work is having the information and advice you need, when you need it," said Gareth Jones, CCOHS president and chief executive officer, in a statement.
"With the OSH Answers app anyone can get instant answers to their workplace health and safety questions on their mobile devices, whether they are in the office or out at a job site with no Internet connection. It really is about providing greater access to a resource that could help prevent work-related injuries and illnesses."
The app is available for free on CCOHS' website, in the Apple App Store as well as Google Play for Android devices, with a web-based version available at www.ccohs.ca/oshanswers.
