Solicitation description

PREQUALIFICATION DOCUMENT 2017-299P
INVITATION TO SUBMIT VENDOR QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE BURNHAMTHORPE
WATER PROJECT – PREQUALIFICATION FOR GENERAL, TUNNEL AND MICROTUNNEL
CONTRACTORS, PROJECTS 13-1125, 16-1118 & 16-2243

The Region of Peel intends to prequalify experienced General Contractors, Tunnelling, and Microtunnelling Subcontractors for the Burnhamthorpe Water Project – Contract 1 and Contract 2, located in the City of Mississauga. Contract 1 is anticipated to involve the installation of approximately 3.8km linear meters of 1500mm Watermain (WM) along Burnhamthorpe Road, between Grand Park Drive and Cawthra Road in the City of Mississauga. Contracts 1 and 2 will be delivered under a single tender call. The proposed 1500mm WM will be constructed by tunnel boring machine (TBM) tunnelling methods, whereby a 1500mm concrete pressure pipe (CPP) will be placed inside an approximately 3000mm mined tunnel. The tunnel will be constructed at an average depth of approximately 20m which is expected to be within slightly weathered to fresh Georgian Bay shale bedrock.

Contract 2 is approximately 1.5 km of 1200mm sanitary sewer and approximately 300m of 600mm Watermain (WM) along Burnhamthorpe Road West and Duke of York Boulevard in the City of Mississauga. The proposed 600mm WM will be installed using a two-pass method, whereby a 600mm concrete pressure pipe (CPP) will be placed inside a larger casing pipe. The proposed sanitary sewer pipe and watermain casing will be constructed by single-pass pipe jacking methods using a “pressurized-face” Microtunnel Boring Machine (MTBM). The tunnel will be constructed at depths ranging from approximately 8 to 20m below ground surface, which is expected to be within slightly weathered to fresh Georgian Bay shale bedrock.
